Please note that we will not be updating this page again until the end of August. Have a great summer!
Each week, we’ll upload some of the recordings that students create as part of their Talking Tuesday discussions. You can use these recordings to discuss the reading materials more with your children, and have them really reflect on the author’s main idea and deeper purpose. Feel free to leave a comment here letting us know what you think of these recordings, and giving students meaningful next steps for improvement as they continue to work on developing their reading comprehension skills.
Thanks for your help with this!

In class today, students spoke about the different things that they’re reading at school and at home. Many students are reading about famous Canadians as they research for their Social Studies Projects. Students are realizing that they don’t just need to read books: websites, articles, and even texts count as reading. Hopefully students will continue to read lots over the summer!

Since I (Aviva) was away today, students did not record their book discussions, but they spoke about reading this week, especially as they looked at the connections of different texts to our Quest2Matter Project. Students also conversed about books that they read at home: making connections, asking questions, and inferring meaning based on what they read.

With EQAO this week and next week, we will not be doing our regular Talking Tuesday routine. This will begin again once EQAO is over.

For Talking Tuesdays today, students read articles in the newspaper that they found interesting and wrote about what made these articles interesting. They discussed the key points with their peers, and connected these articles to other ones that they’ve read before. You can find some of their tweets about these articles in our Storify Stories on the Daily Shoot Blog.

As they continue to work on their Genius Hour Projects, students are talking about reading more frequently. You can see some of this information recorded in our Daily Shoot blog posts.

Students took some time at school this morning to discuss what they read. To align with our TLCP, students continued to talk about the point of view of the characters in the book, and how they know that this is what the characters think and feel. Please note that we did not record the Talking Tuesdays this week. We’ll work on recording them next week.

With it being a short week, today was an incredibly busy day, and so students discussed their books in many different ways. Some students spoke to their peers about what they read, while other discussed their reading online using a Today’sMeet Room. Some students even used our Divergent Point of View chatroom to discuss their reading while also looking at point of view in a book that we’re reading together. This links directly to our TLCP on point of view.

As we were trying to work on various projects in class before the March Break, we did not get a chance to record these Talking Tuesday discussions. We will record more after the Break though. Sorry about this!

With two assemblies today, we didn’t have a lot of time for Talking Tuesday, but students took advantage of our 15 minutes in the library to share their book discussions. Here are two audio recordings from today. With 60 Grade 6’s in the one room, there is some background noise, but the recordings are both still clear.

For Talking Tuesdays this week, many students used our Today’sMeet room to discuss their books. It was great to see so many students eager to share their thinking and learning with others in a way where they could “talk” and “write” at the same time. Here is a link to a GoogleDoc transcript of this chat session from today.
Livescribe Pencast One group of students chose to use the Livescribe Pen to record a pencast of their Talking Tuesdays discussion. We love how they spoke and wrote to share their reflections from this week’s readings.
